The International Red Cross

Author: Johnny Smithings

The International Red Cross spans many countries and offers help to those in need all over the world. Their continuing support extends to people in many different situations, and each one is treated in a unique manner.

Over the years, the International Red Cross has helped many people during times of personal strife and natural disasters. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is, in fact, the world's largest humanitarian network, with a presence spanning almost every country. Its members take on many different issues and activities each year, and are able to help many people who, without them, would have great difficulty receiving much needed assistance.

This movement is comprised of members from various Red Cross societies and organizations from over 178 countries, and has survived a vibrant history. Cine its birth during the aftermath of the Battle of 1859, though its support in two world wars and up through today, this organization is recognized for its continued help and compassion to those in need.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement operates under seven fundamental principles. They are: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. The seven fundamental principles are strongly held to at all times, and are shared throughout the world to help ensure the needs of each individual are served.

In this movement, each society is considered equal, and shares the same responsibilities toward helping others in times of crisis. Each individual fundamental principle is expressly defined and adhered to, and the unity gives the organization the opportunity to help people all over the globe by providing them the same advantages and services.

The International Red Cross is recognized throughout the world for its efforts to assist disaster victims, and provide relief for those who are ill or disadvantaged. Their ongoing service extends world wide as they continue to expand their efforts
