What Is DNA Testing?

Author: David Chong TC

DNA stands for DeoxyriboNucleic Acid where it contains the fabric material of nearly all forms of life. How DNA was known and found brings us all the way back to the 1980's with medical and technological breakthroughs. Today DNA testing plays an important and extremely crucial role in the criminal investigation system as well as in the social civilization partition.

When using DNA test on crime scene investigations, the identity of the crime suspect can be verified by just a hair follicle or nail clip found at the crime scene. Chewing gums, pieces of skin and cigarette butts reveals things like a brand new world. Unknown to the naked eye. Your DNA can be found on your clothes, door handles, thorn bushes that you accidentally scratched on and that new toothbrush that you used just yesterday!

Since the use of DNA testing started, it has reopened closed cases and released people has been wrongly convicted of crime as well as putting behind bars those whom till now, was free due to the lack of proof.

On the other hand, DNA testing that is used in the social civilization partition, the ancestral lines can finally be traced! Do you have Native American ancestors? Send for your DNA kit, collect your specimen and then send out to those centers who can provide you with your genealogical information.

What are the other uses for DNA? It can be taken to the marines or biology lab and test how old is a tree bark or if there is an identical or similar pattern between a comodo dragon with the crocodiles. Have you ever heard of a sheep named Dolly? It was a cloned sheep! How? DNA, of course. However if you are observant, and you would probably have heard, Dolly has moved on. But that show how much technology and our knowledge has grown! Give it a few more years and the sky is the limit.

So back to finding your ancestry line, DNA testing centers are found all over the globe in most countries. Fees are not your average burgers and fries but easily passing the several hundred dollar mark. Many centers will provide you with a home based DNA collection kid which you can return it to them via mail. The results will return after several weeks, depending on the demand.
