Discount London Theatre Tickets

Author: Kenneth Cheesman

West End theatre is a popular term for mainstream professional theatre in London, or sometimes more specifically for shows staged in the theatres of London's "Theatreland". Along with New York's Broadway, West End theatre (not exclusively) is usually considered to represent the highest level of theatre. Seeing a West End show is a common tourist activity in London.

London theatres may well be thought of as being predominantly in the West End, but it is by no means an exclusive market, with superb theatres and productions being performed out of the limelight of the West End. Whichever theatre you visit, and whichever production you see, you will experience part of London's theatrical culture. It is possible to buy cheap or discount London theatre tickets, but where to look?

One answer quite simply is to surf the web through the search engines and visit the numerous websites on offer. There are usually special offers available on most of them; some at half-price or even less. This however is ONLY one way and most websites or telephone booking companies will invariably charge a booking fee that can vary considerably - so shop around!

Several West End shows have adopted the National Theatre's long-held policy of holding back a block of cheap seats for sale on the day of performance. Currently WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF, GUYS AND DOLLS, THE LION KING, BLUE MAN GROUP, MARY POPPINS, and BILLY ELLIOT have day seats. You might want to check with the theatre in advance to find out what time to begin queuing!

For those that are on a tight budget and can book at the last minute, you may want to visit the Society of London Theatres' half-price "tkts" booth in Leicester Square, where tickets to that day's performances of many shows are available at half price or less, plus a small charge. You cannot buy these tickets in advance or by telephone, but there is usually a good choice available.

Further special offers can be gained during the relatively quieter time from January through to March. Groups can also be eligible for discounts, usually from 6-8 or more - again shop around.

Visiting London's West End theatres IS seeing part of England's culture - so shop around and enjoy a great time!
